Therapeutic Ultrasound
Deep-tissue healing for muscles, tendons, and ligaments.
At Restore & Enhance Animal Physiotherapy, Therapeutic Ultrasound is used to promote healing and relieve discomfort in soft tissue injuries such as muscle strains, tendon and ligament damage, and scar tissue formation.
This safe and non-invasive treatment delivers sound waves deep into tissues, helping to reduce inflammation, increase circulation, and accelerate repair.
How It Works
Therapeutic ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves that travel into the soft tissues beneath the skin. These sound waves cause gentle vibration and deep tissue heating, which helps to:
- Increase blood flow and oxygen delivery to damaged tissues
- Reduce inflammation and swelling
- Soften scar tissue and improve flexibility
- Stimulate cellular repair and regeneration
Different settings can be used to target either acute injuries (with non-thermal, pulsed ultrasound) or chronic conditions (with gentle thermal effects).
Benefits of Ultrasound Therapy
- Promotes faster healing of muscle, tendon, and ligament injuries
- Helps reduce pain and stiffness
- Improves mobility and flexibility
- Enhances tissue recovery following surgery or trauma
- Supports rehabilitation and return to full function
Safe and Comfortable Treatment
Ultrasound therapy is completely painless and non-invasive.
A conductive gel is applied to the skin, and a small probe is moved in circular motions over the treatment area. Most animals find the process soothing, and it’s often combined with other therapies such as massage, PEMF, or exercise rehabilitation for best results.
When It’s Not Suitable
Therapeutic ultrasound is not used:
- Over areas of active infection or neoplasia
- On open wounds
- Over metal implants
- On pregnant animals
- Over growth plates in young animals
